(RTTNews) - MIRA Pharmaceuticals Inc. (MIRA), a clinical-stage pharmaceutical company, on Thursday reported positive toxicokinetic data for SKNY-1 to facilitate future studies as a GLP-1 drug with potential for treating obesity.
SKNY-1 has shown dose-dependent reductions in body weight alongside lean body mass preservation in preclinical models. The drug decreased feeding habits yet did not increase anxiety levels despite employing cannabinoid pathways, unlike other CB1-targeting therapies. An oral formulation of SKNY-1 showed bioavailability, robust brain penetration, and substantial liver exposure.
In the toxicokinetic study, male and female Beagle dogs were dosed orally over 7 days. The drug demonstrated rapid oral absorption and dose-dependent systemic exposure across the evaluated dose range.
The company stated plans to advance SKNY-1 in GLP-toxicology analyses and in studies to enable an investigational new drug (IND) submission for the treatment of obesity.
