Hogs Holding Steady on Tuesday

Lean hog futures are trading with contracts up a dime to down a nickel in the front months on Tuesday’s midday. USDA’s national base hog price was reported at $89.64 on Tuesday morning, up 99 cents from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was down another 66 cents on August 28 at $90.86.

USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was back up a penny in the Tuesday AM report, at $97.68. The loin, picnic, and belly were the primals reported lower. USDA estimated federally inspected hog slaughter for Monday at 476,000. That is 7,000 head above the previous Monday.
