Hogs Face Friday Pressure as Cash and Cutout Weaken

Lean hog futures were down 72 cents to $1.62 across most contracts on Friday, with October slipping 77 cents for the week. USDA’s national base hog price was reported at $85.38 on Friday afternoon, down $1.48 from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was down another 57 cents on September 9 at $88.22.

Weekly Export Sales data showed 27,435 MT of pork sold for 2026 in the week ending on September 3, a 3-week low. Shipments were pegged at 30,187 MT, a 4-week high.

Managed money in lean hog futures and options cut another 4,767 contracts from their net short as of Tuesday, taking the position to -23,556 contracts

USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was down $2.01 in the Friday PM report, at $89.80. The rib and ham primals were the only reported higher, with the belly falling $9.67. USDA estimated federally inspected hog slaughter this week at 2.269 million head, well below the same non-holiday week last year.

Oct 26 Hogs closed at $81.525, down $1.625,

Dec 26 Hogs closed at $72.700, down $1.650

Feb 27 Hogs closed at $75.200, down $1.625,
