(RTTNews) - Dexcom, Inc. (DXCM) released its 2026 State of Type 2 Report, highlighting challenges related to health literacy, technology literacy and systemic access to diabetes technology.
The report is based on a survey of more than 800 healthcare professionals and 2,500 people with Type 2 diabetes across eight countries, including the U.S., U.K., Germany, Italy, Japan, Poland, Saudi Arabia and Sweden.
The report found that 89% of healthcare professionals believe continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) helps assess treatment adherence between appointments.
Among current CGM users, more than half reported following their treatment plans more closely after adopting the technology.
Awareness and access remain barriers, with 55% of people with Type 2 diabetes reporting limited knowledge of CGM.
Coverage and reimbursement challenges were cited by 90% of U.S. healthcare professionals and 53% of healthcare professionals across the other seven surveyed countries.
Among CGM users, 94% reported managing their diabetes more independently, 93% found CGM easy to use and 91% used CGM data to guide treatment decisions.
The report also examined CGM use alongside GLP-1 medications. Among people with Type 2 diabetes using GLP-1s, 58% reported pairing the medication with CGM, compared with 27% of Type 2 diabetes patients not using insulin.
Dexcom said the findings indicate an opportunity to increase awareness and access to CGM among people with Type 2 diabetes, including through greater use alongside GLP-1 therapies.
Separately, Dexcom announced a partnership with Team Novo Nordisk to become the professional cycling team's official continuous glucose monitoring partner.
The partnership is intended to support real-world research, education and awareness around glucose monitoring for people living with Type 1 diabetes.
